Portraits, Family Portraits, Senior Portraits: How I Do things:

General fee structures:
By-appointment private sittings are encouraged. Whether at your home, or a desired location chosen by you or myself. Beautiful backdrops abound in northern Colorado-both inside and out. Sitting fees begin at $150 for up to 2 hours within 50 miles of Fort Collins. Longer sessions are available for additional incremental fees. If sitting is further away than 50 miles, additional fees may apply. If assignment is out of local area travel expenses will be billed on a cost plus basis. A booking deposit is due at the initial consultation, with balance due on the day of shooting.

Wardrobe, Makeu and Settings:
Wardrobe is at your discretion, and you are free to change as often as you like during out shooting session. Most people show up ready to shoot, having done hair and make up prior to arrival. I have no resident make up artist, but will be happy to recommend and hire someone for your session if you desire. Poses and settings are whatever we can fit into our 2 hour slot. Most of the time this encompasses at least 8-15 different poses in 2-4 different venues, depending on location, time of year and time of day.

Reoutching:
I am a former college-level Photoshop instructor, and have been using Photoshop for nearly 20 years. Virtually anything is possible with your portrait. With this in mind, a base level of color balancing and correction falls within the scope of the sitting fee. Included in this cost is minor cosmetic retouching & selective focus work. For extensive post-processing work (removing braces, changing color of hair or clothing for example), time is billed at an hourly rate.

I am a small studio; professional but personally involved. My prefered model is to make fewer, and higher-quality photos, than to make more mid-to-poor quality photos. A good bit of thought, time and money has gone into the creative decisions made for your specific portrait. Experience, technique, and expensive, high-quality lenses and cameras are employed to render your photograph in its ideal state right out of camera. Therefore, if I've done my job well, most photographs I shoot require little to no extensive retouching. Digital photographs are the norm today, but I also shoot film cameras for a special look when requested. Prices are adjusted for film work.

Reviewing Proofs:
After your shooting session you will be provided a password-protected link to view on-line in the comfort and privacy of your own home. From there you'll be able to make any and all purchase decisions, with me being a phone call or e-mail away for guidance and help if needed. If you do not have internet access we will sit down together and go over proofs at your convenience.

All final prints are printed at highest-quality professional labs, and drop-shipped directly to you shortly after your order is placed on the on-line, secure ordering system.

One chosen yearbook photo will be provdied digitally. You may use this image on Facebook, MySpace or any on-line gallery/forum or your choosing.

Ordering:
When it comes time to order prints, a variety of A-la-Carte pricing options are available for only the prints you choose. I want your prints to fit your desires and needs - from size, finish, paper, matte and framing options - whatever you deem desireable and approrpriate. I am happy to make suggestions and recommendations as to what others have found worked for them. Sample prices are 8" x 12" prints for about $43.00, 10" x15" prints for about $85.00, unframe/umatted; Matting and and extensive framing options are also available.

Orders may be placed on-line with your credit card, or if you're more comfortable not ordering on-line you may pay directly with check or cash and I will place the orders for you. Prints typically take less than a week once an order is placed, but I can not guaranty a specific in-hand delivery date. If you have an important event coming up I encourage you to plan ahead!

You own the photographic print you purchase as a result of the shoot. With the exception noted above, original digital files, JPEG's or negatives are not provided. Be assured your images are treated with respect, care, and are handled appropriately.

Scheduling:
The further out we can book, the better, but I like to have at least a week's notice to work you into the schedule. If it's an out-door location and the weather does not cooperate (Colorado can be infamous for rapid changes in wheather), we will re-schedule at the soonest available time. Or, adjust to inclement weather accordingly.

NEW: I now offer something new called a "Proof Print Ablum" that contains the entire results of your session printed in 4" x 6" at a reasonable price. This proof print album is a way for you to have a variety of smaller, printed images all contained in a nicely bound album, along with the individual, larger image(s) you choose. Costs typically begin at $250 for an average of 200+ photographs, representing significant savings over purchasing 4" x 6" independently.

Disclaimers-What you can expect from me
While we strive to accomodate all inquiries, John Crane Photography reserves the right to decline a photo assignment based on my sole discretion alone. This includes - but is not limited to - what is sometimes referred to as "glamour" photography, or photographing events not in line with my moral or ethical compass. Unfortunately this statement has become necessary due to a turn in social climate and the ensuing legal consequences to fellow photographers declining to photograph events or people based on their own faith or personal beiefs.
