About John Crane Photography

As a small, independent photographer, I wear a few different hats:

Ever wonder why so many pictures of outdoor photographers show them with their baseball caps turned backwards? This picture might help explain why (the speedlight is a dead giveaway ;-).

Keeping the noggin warm with my "Windstopper" during some fall colors shooting, Colorado.

For me personally, outdoor photography keeps me getting out and doing things.

The image to the right was shot this fall in Zion National Park. The Subway is a somewhat arduous hike in a somewhat remote canyon of Zion.

The route is so popular that the National Park Service has instituted a permit system with a lottery and on-line application form. To hike the Subway from top to bottom, or bottom up and back requires a $15 permit and a reservation.

I'm John Crane and I'd like to personally welcome you to John Crane Photography. John Crane Photography is all about preserving unique, beautiful moments in time using the art of photography.

As a small, independent photography studio I wear a few different hats; senior portraits, team portraits, family portraits, pets, events, activities, commercial, studio, product – you name it, if you need an excellent photograph of it, I can help. One of my specialties is photographing people involved in just about any out-door sports or recreational activity or event.

I've been at this for over 30 years. I studied photojournalism and art/graphic design in school, and my first job was for a photo studio in Chicago. The driving motivator these days is the relationships built with the people I work with. Far from a sterile, corporate model, I'm a small, independent studio focused on quality and relationships. Success comes if you do a good job and follow a few basic principles: be fair, ethical and honest always; do the best quality work at the most cost-effective price; and treat people like they're important, because they are.

I learned a long time ago you can conduct yourself in a professional manner and still be fun to work with. People want to feel sure in the knowledge their assignment is handled by someone who knows what they're doing, and I get that. you're in good hands here.

I'm a long-time Colorado resident and believe in building relationships with those in my own back yard, and serving and giving back to the community. We're here for the long haul, and take pride in a job well done.

Though my home is Fort Collins, Colorado, I regularly travel the states of Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming and beyond for work and pleasure. Much of my studio kit is portable, and easily fits in a carry on or the back of my Subaru.

Please call with your special event, especially if it involves hard work to shoot. That's what keeps us going here. We'd love to hear from you.
